ZONKIZIZWE, SOUTH AFRICA

With a mission to help orphans and vulnerable children and youth in Zonkizizwe to thrive, VVOCF provides after-school activities (e.g., arts, cultural, recreational, academic) and hot meals to children and youth every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The center also conducts regular home visits to ensure the safety and well-being of the children and youth it serves. In addition, VVOCF provides psychosocial support as well as violence prevention, gender equality and HIV peer education programs that engage youth in the community as leaders.
With the support of MSU students through the Multi-Racial Unity Living Experience (MRULE) and an MSU study abroad program focused on race relations in South Africa, VVOCF opened its doors in 2007, and has sustained impact for the last 10 years.
