We’re always looking for people who want to be intercultural aides (ICAs). But bringing people together across difference is not easy. This is hard work, yet as we’re fond of saying, “we can do hard things.”

So, what exactly is an intercultural aide? 


Intercultural Aides (ICAs) are undergraduate student staff members who live and work in the residence halls to help students make successful social, cultural, and academic transitions to MSU. MSU students come from many different backgrounds, cultural experiences, and parts of the world. When first entering MSU, it is can be an overwhelming experience. Therefore, ICAs are responsible for providing individualized student contact, informing students about campus resources, and implementing engaged learning opportunities in the different neighborhoods on campus for students to interact across difference and build genuine inclusive community. 

What we’re looking for in candidates: 

  • Eagerness and interest in working and interacting with diverse peoples 
  • Interest in learning about the many diverse cultures and peoples of MSU’s community 
  • Experience living in a residence hall for at least one semester 
  • Open-mindedness towards new ideas and different perspectives 
  • Interest in personal and professional growth & development 
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 
  • Previous leadership experience 
  • Integrity and maturity 
  • A positive and enthusiastic attitude!

    The deadline to apply for a mid-year ICA position is Friday, November 18, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. (First-year students are NOT eligible to apply for a mid-year opening.) And the deadline to apply for a 2017–2018 ICA position is Friday, December 31, 2016 at 11:59 p.m.
